devondancer update & the lady with the lamp

Lesley is half awake now. She is very drowsy but aware that I am there. She seems to have quite a lot of pain but does not appear to be in the agony of before, and is being closely monitored. I appreciate the new jokes (!) and she will hear them all tomorrow, when perhaps she will appreciate them better. I also have a beautiful new waltz to play her - thank you, SteveJ. She loves folk dances in waltz time and has written several. She dances beautifully, so light on her feet, which is odd because she is normally so clumsy!

Before her first op (seems so long ago now) Lesley wrote this for you all: the story of The Old Lady and the Lamp, which several people requested in an earlier post. I don’t think she would mind me posting it now!

A lady with a bedside lamp
Began this tale of woe.
A pretty lamp with onyx base -
That’s all you need to know.
The lady was both old and cross,
Unhappy at her plight:
Incarcerated in this “Home”!
She was prepared to fight.

She gathered up her weaponry;
Her stick, her breakfast tray.
What else? Of course, her onyx lamp!
Now, ready for the fray.
The unsuspecting nurse came in,
The tray slid to the floor:
A trail of bacon sandwiches
Stretched from chair to door.

“I’ll tempt her in,” the old girl thought.
“She thinks I’m almost dead.
And when she kneels in front of me
I’ll whack her on the head!
What, she’s not quite close enough?
Well dammit, what the heck!
If I can swing this onyx lamp
I’ll hit her in the neck.”

Her plan succeeded all too well
And this time blood and gore
Stretched right across the carpet
And slithered through the door.
The moral of the story is
You simply mustn’t blame
The nurse who makes her whistles
From bits of Zimmer frame.

Thank you again - those words are inadequate.

:boggle:

I’m glad there are signs of improvement, Roland! I was worried.

And the minute she’s back here, I’m going to tell her you said she was clumsy.

She has a wicked sense of humour obviously so I think she’ll overlook the clumsy bit and be delighted about the lightness and beauty of her dancing. I’ve been with the in-laws in East Budleigh all day today so I’m getting nearer. One day I’ll play her a waltz on the harmonica and she can dance!
