Desi Seery polymer flute in D for trade

I have a new Desi Seery polymer flute in D that I would like to trade for an M&E flute in D. I’ve tried both of them, and I prefer the M&E, though many like the Seery better. I’d prefer an M&E without the split embouchure, would prefer the Rudall and Rose model, but would consider the basic flute. I would ask that the M&E be in new or nearly new condition. There is a wooden case that comes with the Seery. Any takers? I’d be interested in comments.

Thanks,
Michael Crane

Well, as for comments, I own both models of M&E as well as the Seery Pratten model; all are fine flutes. There’s certainly nothing wrong with preferring the M&E.

Best wishes with whatever flute you wind up playing,

–James

I have an M&E Rudall style, and have been considering buying a Seery. I don’t know tough if I could trade away my M&E. I like it very much, and don’t know if I would like the Seery as much.
I’ve got quite a lot to do, with some gigs and stuff coming up, and mabey I don’t have what it takes to play a Pratten just yet. Otherwise I’d love to try.

You can do it!

Apart from the large tone holes (and not having played and M&E R&R model so I have no comparison), I don’t find the Seery so difficult to play. Great flute really.

That said, I’d sure love the chance to play an M&E R&R sometime…Michael Cronnelly’s price for a keyed one is hard to beat.

James, Henke, Jayhawk–thanks for the comments. I’m just unable as yet to get the sound I want out of the Seery. I’m not able to give it enough breath support, I suppose, particularly on the low end of the scale. I’m pretty much a beginner on the flute; I’ve been playing for less than a year, and I play other instruments as well, so I haven’t developed my embouchure as well as I might. I find the Seery a bit daunting, but I’m able to get a good sound from an M&E, so I thought switching away from the Seery might help. Probably what I really need to do is to focus on the Seery, and on my breath, and embouchure. I’ll give it a try.

Thanks,
Michael

Yeah, sometimes an instrument pushes back the
goal posts. Play it and it’ll probably come.
