OK…you are going to be marooned on a desert island and are only allowed one personal item…what’s it going to be…
…toothbrush
or whistle ??
..or something else?

Oh, so easy…the WHISTLE, of course!
I could entertain myself for an eternity!
Lolly
Well, assuming that “personal item” can’t be my husband… ![]()
I guess I’d have to say the whistle (and more specifically, my battered old Generation Eb). I’m pretty sure I could make a serviceable toothbrush, but my instrument making skills are nil, and you have to have SOMETHING for entertainment, after all!
I’d choose the whistle rather than one of my recorders or my guitar because I wouldn’t have to worry about it getting damaged by sand or water (or by being accidentally sat upon).
Redwolf
how about a whistle-brush…
make an tooth-brush extension to the whistle.
If this is not allowed, then I’ll take the whistle. No contest.
Of course I assume there is electricity and a CD player somewhere in the island so I can take my CDs too.
and humm…Grey Poupon! but of course!
Otter
Probably a bottomless tube of sunscreen so I don’t die a miserable death of skin cancer.
Now get back to “work” Boyd, or maybe its nightime along the bonny banks and braes…
The Playboy mansion.
Chris
Geeze, I thought the question would be WHICH whistle would you bring. As long as I could bring a swab and bore oil, it would (today) be the Brewerpaul whistle in bocote, although tomorrow it might be a Thin Weasel. If not allowed maintenance supplies, Burke wide-bore brass, hands down (at least till that Silkstone alloy arrives).

Damn Chris, that was a good one!! I haven’t laughed so hard since I saw “Kill Smoochie”!!!
Loren
P.S. You are going to bring your Pal Loren along on this little vacation, right?
P.P.S. We’re on topic now, right?
Yeah Loren,
It was a toss-up between the Playboy Mansion or Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch…
somehow Miss June was a bit more attractive to me than Bubbles the monkey.

Neverland is a better bet. . .desert islands are fairly low in protein, and Neverland does has a zoo. . .
One personal item? the best Swiss army knife I could carry. Or the boyscout’s handbook. . .hey, do the boyscouts have a badge in whistle-making? Or maybe a volleyball.
Tyghress,
Regarding the issue of food at the Playboy mansion versus Neverland Ranch - you act as if you’ve never even been to a party at the mansion.
The catering is superb.
Chris
P.S. - Tyghress, it was my great, great uncle who founded New Directions Press and first published Borges in the US.

Definatley a Champion Swiss Army Knife, I could make just about anything with a good knife like this. Never tried a whistle, but I’m sure I’d have lots of time to experiment once I used my knfe to make a raft and get back to civilization.
I’m glad no one said, “A Wilson brand volley ball.”
Overton low D non-tunable is the only logical choice.
That way I can play music and club my fuzzy island friends for their nutritional value.

I wonder if the Swiss Army people would consider putting a WHISTLE on their products??
Dazed Industries is pleased to announce that R&D has commenced on the WhistleBrush. Soon you will be able to fight plaque and gum disease while whistling…the optional metronome attachment will allow you do so at up to 300 bpm.
Just think, Anna, whan you hand these out to the kids, you’ll be helping build healthy teeth in Deadwood as well as spearding the joy of music.
DAZED
…hmmm…which whistle…
..is best at removing plaque build-up??

Why, the one with the angled head, of course.
I think I’d bring a sattelite phone. Failing that, perhaps a book on building ocean-going craft from palm trees. ![]()
For removing plaque buildup, I’d think you’d want a classic Clarke…you could unroll a tiny bit of the tin at the bottom and use it as a dental scaler (do re mi fa sol la ti…SCRAPE!)
