Dermot Hyde/stolen whistle

Piper Dermot Hyde’s Overton Low G whistle was taken last Friday night during the after hour sessions at the Park East Hotel during the Milwaukee Irish Fest.

This was his band’s first time to play in the states. He was heart broken for the loss as he had had the whistle for 9 years and it had just the perfect personality that suited his playing style. For the person who took it, it is probably just a whistle…but for him it is an irreplaceable loss…

So if the person who took the whistle reads this or if someone who knows that person reads this I would beg of you to return the whistle to the following address.

All will be forgiven and No questions will be asked. I’m sure Dermot would be unbelievably overjoyed if it showed up on the doorstep.

Here is the Address:

Obviously I’m in no position to identify the culprit. Just a couple of comments though.

First, Dale, can you find out and post anything that might help us in identifying this whistle if we see it? Distinctive marks, serial number ..? If it’s nine years old I’m guessing that it’s probably a Bernard-made number, although I don’t have the Overton chronology off pat so I’m not sure. I think Dermot lives fairly close to Colin and might well be known to him. I know I’ve exchanged comments with Brigitte about Dermot on this forum.

For those who would like to help Dermot and haven’t stolen the whistle—you know who you are—the best thing you can do, and you’ll be doing yourself a great favour too, is to buy his CD (with Tom Hake) Pipeline. IMO it is wonderfully witty, utterly exhilerating and exquisitely beautiful.

I might write to Dermot myself with a few suggestions for getting an adequate replacement but obviously it would be better if the stolen item were found and returned.
