The Internation Geophysical Year in 1957, the first time measurements of air and sea temperature were coordinated around the world. Yes! The Temperature IS going up, but not evenly, as a glance at the GLOBAL topography shows: that land masses and water are NOT evenly distributed. As I have read, the warmest it got in THIS interglacial (from 13,000 years back) period that we are in, was a mere 1,000 years ago, and pipers were growing wine grapes in Ireland. Greenland WAS habitable, and GREEN. Ice and sea mud cores show the UPS and DOWNS pretty well. We do have alot of nerve, thinking that our puny efforts to “unconciously” stave off another ICE AGE, with our WARS and INDUSTRY, will work? They do generate alot of HEAT, but we will indubliously SLIDE into another ice age…I saw the film “the Day After Tomorrow” and I AM
INFORMED! Sooner and perhaps later, as the varibles work themselves out…Ow, I can feel it in all my old injuries, not to mention my deep ancestral memories of being… REALLY COLD!

To absolutely PROVE scientifically that parachutes stop you from going SPLAT on the ground and then dying, we would need to have a controlled trial, double blind, with placebo etc [glands knows what those are]…
…strangely enough, no-one’s ever done it. Something about not getting volunteers for the control side of the trial [the bit for people jumping without the parachute].

Has anyone tried a product called “Milsek” on their reeds. It is actually a furniture polish (no waxes, silicone or water, just oil)
I tried it on a spare reed that was just starting to complain about the drop in humidity and it seems to have stabalized it. I put a drop of the stuff on my finger and rubbed it into the blades of the reed.

Jim, that runs along the line of those who soak reeds in neatsfoot oil. Some say it’s great others say it dulls the sound.

I am on my way. The humidity here took a dip down to 51%… reeds beginning to protest.
What’s the humidity inside the average pint glass? Anyone?

When I went around to the UK folk Clubs in the winter of 1975, with the Eb Kennedy set, I noticed that all the beer breath of the patrons, made my back D sink almost instantly and was most pronouced in the small- packed- room
folk clubs…never mind the interior of the pint glass! My solution at that time, was to push the chanter reed as deep into the reed seat as it would go, and tape over the back D to start, then, merely remove the tape as I went along!
As for sinking back"D"s in Florida (and I was only there 2x’s, ten years apart in the Jacksonville area), I “resorted”( ha-ha)to the same thing, at Amelia Island Plantation, right after hurricane Hugo, and Pontevedra Beach, where the Gaita went fine, and an a Asturian Spanish lady ran up to me, saying: “I heard the Gaita, and I thought I was dreaming!” “Humide” Sean Folsom
