This is not the least bit timely, but Kwela legend Donald Kachamba died on January 12, 2001 (over a year ago). I did not see any mention of this event through any C&F media outlet.
I found out through this page on Scientific African during a routine Kwela search.

He sure got some funky sounds out of that whistle.
I’ve been listening to a couple of these tracks. That’s some powerful African music, with the whistle, gutbucket, guitar, shaker, and harmonica.
I wonder if I could replicate that sound “one man band” style.
