Has anyone built a set of pipes using David Daye’s instructions? I would like to try and do this so I can learn to play the pipes and I don’t have the $$$ to pay for even a practice set.
Your thoughts would be appreciated!!!
Thanks all.

Patrick ya dingbat…the bloke just told us he’s so poor he can’t afford the basic kit from D. Daye…sorry cobber, it doesn’t get any cheaper than D. Daye’s gear.
p.s. your avatar disturbs me…change it…it’s givin me the creeps
Do yourself a favor though, shell out for a finished reed and a reed kit from D. Daye. That way you can have a working reed to study and start learning how to make your own from the kit. You might also consider buying the inner throat piece from him when you get the reed so it can be positioned in your chanter. I know money is tight, but that bit is rough to build the first time and might be worth the expense. Good luck.

Thanks for advice guys. I am going to build a few whistles first to get the hang of the process and then try my hand at the pipe thing. Thanks!!!
if you don’t mind playing around to make a working reed from a yogurt container (which actually works passably well when it works), you can run a search for “brass chanter” on this board. I have made two from brass tubing and hobby store supplies that will run you about $20 (yes, I’m not missing a zero there)…might be worth the try before giving up on the idea just yet. in addition to posting measuremnets and ascii diagrams, I have a pdf i can email you with proper diagrams and measurements if you send me your email via a PM - i’ll also put you on my mailing list…by the time I’m done i’m hoping to have full instructions for a full set constructed similarly…
WHAT??? Get rid of Judge??? Sneaky-Snake tried for years and failed miserably!!
