Hi Everyone -
I have a Dave Williams 8-key (block mounted) flute that I recently inherited and subsequently sold on ebay. A (very kind) flute player and forum participant purchased it but returned it as it was not really playable and he was looking for something high-end that was ready to play. He used to be a flute maker and told me specifically the tuning slide was not working correctly and the rings were loose. At present the head joint is pretty well stuck in the barrel joint and I am wary of trying to force it apart, though I did have them separated at one point. I imagine a skilled person with the right tools could fix this pretty fast. The instrument itself seems to be in excellent shape otherwise but has sat in disuse for several years.
I subsequently had a local clarinet shop re-glue the silver rings and replace the pads, but beyond that they are clueless to this kind of instrument.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend someone who would be qualified and hopefully willing to look at it? I don’t have a lot of $$ to put into it, just want to get it back to good condition for sale and hoping to find it a good home. I would also consider reasonable offers for it outright in as-is condition as well – I just don’t want it to sit in a box unused ![]()
