Dave Hegarty and Jim Wenham, who together have taught the reeds workshops at the Willie Clancy Summer School for the last 4 years, will be in St.Louis to conduct a 3 day reed intensive - April 19-21 as part of the St.Louis Tionol. For the pipers - Jimmy Morrison is coming, a great piper and teacher from N.Cork. The perennial Michael Cooney. AND a dark horse by the name of Brendan Collins from North Tipp. He would have grown up with Michael. He’s a great piper and a good teacher. I’ve known him for some time and I guarantee he’ll outlast any 10 pipers I know in a session.
We’ve got Eileen O’Brien coming to teach fiddle - she’s Paddy O’Brien’s (Tipp) daughter and she and Michael Cooney go way back winning all-ireland duets together. Then there’s Paul Smyth the flute player from Ballina in Tipp. And Pat Egan who’s also from Tipp. Joanie Madden is coming along with Mairtin de Cogain, Len Graham, Mirella Murray and then some of the usual suspects, John Skelton, Kathleen Conneely, Ged Foley, etc.
With the Tipperary centricity, and knowing the players, I think I can guarantee that the sessions will be cosmic.
I think it will be a fitting way to celebrate our 15th year
