Dan O'Keeffe's Slide

Hi
I didn’t know whether to post this here or on the ITM forum
but seeing as I’m playing it on whistle I chose here.
I’ve just learnt Dan O’Keeffe’s slide / Danny Abs Slide
and I was was after a tune to go with it
It can go before or after but would prefer before.
Can anyone help?

Thanks

If you go to TheSession.org, it shows many recordings on which that tune was included:
http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/53

If you click on any of those recordings, you can see what other tunes were
included in the same set. For example, if you go to the link above and click
on “Banish Misfortune by Malcolm Dalglish And Grey Larsen”, then look down
to track 4 (which includes O’Keefe’s), you’ll see this set:

The Road To Lisdoonvarna
The Trip To Sligo
Dennis Murphy’s
O’Keefe’s

I never thought of that, Duh

I’ve found ‘The Knocknaboul’ from Diarmuid O’Brien’s ‘Cairde Cairdin’
should work nicely.

Thanks

If you’re looking for another slide to precede it, there’s the ever popular Road to Lisdoonvarna. I like to follow slides with jigs, though. You could follow it with a jig in A minor like the Lilting Banshee, except that would sound sort of samey. I’d probably shift to a jig in E minor; there’s always the ever popular Morrison’s, or the Swallowtail Jig.

Thanks Dameon,
This is giving me some good ideas

The combos I’ve heard that I can remember are

O’Keefe’s to Old Favorite (aka Club Céilí)
Brosna to O’Keefe’s

Guess that tune follows just about anything…although it’s slide into double jig here?

Brosna to O’Keefe’s

I like the major-minor shift. We sometimes do
Brosna - O’Keefe’s - Denis Murphy’s
(I think that’s also suggested in one of the Comhaltas session tune books as an option)
