Dale's Election Pool Thread

Hey Dale, what time does the pool start? Can you give us a time zone to base it off of? Otherwise the Americans are at a severe disadvantage compared to the rest of the world (especially the Australians!)… :boggle:

How about midnight by Dale’s time, which is Central. We could all gather in the chat room for a party, like when the Harry Potter book was released. We could all come in costume, dressed as our favorite C&F character. We could play games and sing songs and drink to excess, and hopefully no one will puke in Dale’s fish tank or wake up naked in the morning on-line with someone they really didn’t mean to. It will be the keenest of sport.

In keeping with the chiff theme, all party foods must start with the ‘ch’ sound – Chex Mix and chili and chocolate chip cookies. Chimichangas and chicken and cheesy taters.

Chorizo, and Txakolina to wash it down.

And champ, of course. And Chips-n-Fish’le.

No, he’s just going to open it whenever, without regard to time zones or a set time. I asked the same questions via PM.

Thanks Cranberry. I figured I wasn’t the only one who had thought about that!

What? No party? What am I going to do with all these Cheerios and chum?

Chunder.

What’s really great is that we are allowed to select anybody from anywhere in the world for this poll. I already have a list of comicbook characters that I am trying whittle down from about a thousand or so.

Man, and I was going to bring chickpeas…

Ok, the current time code is August 14 23:03 (See the “Posted at:” line) and it’s August 14 6:03 p.m. (18:03) in the Deep South of the USA where, in addition, IT IS HOT AS ALL HOLY HELL!!. But, that’s another story.

I will open the thread, then, approximately 23:00 Board Time Code Time on August 15.

That is all.

…and I was going to dress up as a sock puppet. I’m bummed.

Oh, you’d never get a sock to … um … never mind.

dang. i was going to bring the most american of all foods, chinese!

Let’s see . . . that means that the board time is Coordinated Universal Time, abbreviated “UTC,” although why it is not “CUT” is beyond me. I suspect the French had a hand in it. Sometimes UTC is called Zulu time, sometimes it is called “Greenwich Mean Time,” especially by old folks, who are so cute when they try to rhyme “Greenwich” with “sandwich.”

Anyway, Dale’s house is on Central Daylight Time, which is UTC or zulu or GMT minus five hours. If this were during the winter, it would be UTC minus six hours. It could also be UTC minus seven hours, but in that case, Dale would have to live in Wyoming.

So . . . . 2300 UTC minus 5 hours give 1800 hours, or as you normal folks would say, 6:00 p.m. Those of you who wear some kind of uniform would still say “Eighteen hundred hours” unless you’re in the navy, in which case you would say “4 Bells.”

Those of us in the midwest would just say “'Bout supper time” and would consider that to be precise enough.

And I almost forgot . . . . For you pipers, Mickey’s big hand will be on the 12 and his little hand will be on the 6.

Oh, geez, I gotta be off-line by then. :imp:

(nevermind the cheese. Hedron got it. And the ciabatta. cheeesh.)

cheeled monkey blains Mr. Jones. (chimp, possibly)

cheerios. and of course chex mix. Chocolate chex mix.

Who’s bringing the Chardonnay?
