Dale seeks a little help

I’m planning to send this to all 3100+ chiff & fipple members. Before I do, I seek your feedback:

  1. Does it make sense?
  2. Although you may have some preferences that I do this differently, do you have any HUGE objections?
  3. Can you think of anything that I, in my boneheadedness, am missing?

Thanks so much,

Dale

Greetings Chiff & Fipple Members!

I hope you are well. I myself am rather busy, but hoping to slap together a new issue of the Chiff & Fipple newsletter this weekend.

Please allow me this rare departure from my usual policy of “all-whistle-all-the-time.”

As many of you veterans will recall, last year we did a Chiff & Fipple fundraiser and raised about $12,000 for two charities. One of the charities was the Crisis Center program here in Birmingham. This is an organization that is dear to my heart. I have served on the Board of Directors off and on for many years and continue to be involved in their work. The Crisis Center offers telephone crisis intervention, suicide prevention services, and hospital-based services to victims of sexual assault. The newest program is a new stand-alone facility dedicated entirely to receiving rape victims in the immediate aftermath of the assault, doing forensic examinations, and providing much-needed reassurance and support. This most recent program is something I have been waiting to see for over 10 years.

I want to make you aware of the Friends of the Crisis Center Campaign. If you join the “Friends of the Crisis Center” for $55.00 (tax deductible), you will get a 1-in-1000 chance to own a 2002 Mazda Miata. You’ll also be eligible to win a 32" Sony color TV, a Nikon Cook PIX digital camera, or a Bose Wave radio with CD player. Only 1000 tickets are sold, so your chances of winning are enhanced.

In addition, I offer this for Chiff & Fipple members only. If you enter and make the people at the Crisis Center aware you are a Chiff & Fipple member, in addition to the above prizes, you will be eligible to win a brand new Fred Rose D whistle, in African Blackwood with sterling silver trim. As you know, the Fred Rose whistle is one of the hottest high-end whistles around. Fred was kind enough to donate this beautiful and valuable whistle for our fundraising. Only Chiff & Fipple members will be eligible for this prize and some Chiff & Fipple member will win it.

Soon I’ll be offering you an opportunity to win this whistle through another route. I’m finalizing arrangments with another charity and we’ll offer one chance to win the Fred Rose whistle for every $15 donated to this additional charity. More about that later. (We’ll have some people entering through the Crisis Center fundraiser, some entering through the other charity fundraiser.)

Let’s summarize.

  1. Join the Crisis Center Friends for $55. Get a 1 in 1000 chance to win a 2002 Miata.
  2. You’ll also be in the pool of 1000 people to win the big Sony TV, the digital camera, or the portable Bose.
  3. You’ll be a much smaller pool of people (Chiff & Fipple members who join the Crisis Center OR who contribute to the additional fundraiser) eligible to win the Fred Rose high D African Blackwood & Silver whistle.

Sounds just fine to me!

This is the kind of good karma that makes the Internet such a great tool. Go for it!!

Count me in!!

Tom D.

Your work has given me great pleasure. I am honored to contribute to a cause you care for. Count me in, too.

Please proceed.

Great cause, cool prizes, easy-to-follow instructions. 3 for 3. I’m in.

I’m in, Dale.

With you, Dale.

And warm greetings from the Brummies in Birmingham UK.

Anyone - what’s the ‘standard’ way of sending $ from UK?

The people from The Crisis Center can accept credit cards which might be the easiest way for people from overseas to participate.

Brigitte

Thanks, everybody. Speaking of overseas, if someone on another continent won that Miata…I wonder how one would arrange to get the Miata transported.

Anyway…

I think I’ll proceed with this.

Dale

I thought the same about the car and how it might fit in an envelope  Brigitte

Yes, I’d like to think that the cost of getting is shipped to Germany would still make it all worthwhile.

Dale

P.S. Hi, Brigitte!

Am I the only person confused about whether one whistle is up for raffle or two? If 100 C&Fers put in for the Crisis Center, will the Rose go to one of them, and then another Rose to the next charity raffle?

okay, I see where you say there are two ‘ins’ to the Rose Whistle raffle. I think a reiteration of this in your summary would be best.

You give immensely of yourself to make this forum happen, Dale, and if anyone objected to the occasional injection of part of your personal life passions into this forum, such a sorrowful person would in my view be ungrateful indeed. Moreover, it is that very passion of yours that gives zest and humour to the C&F site, and you shouldn’t even feel the need to obtain feedback for this worthy cross-pollenation. The fact that you did demonstrates the balance and sensitivity that you regularly bring to bear. My cheque is already in the mail to the above address, whether or not the lottery chances end up being included.THis will be my way of joining you in living our faith.
(Consistent with the Canadian spellings for “cheque” and “humour” above, I probably put “Crisis Centre” as the payee, but I figure they’ll get it cashed just fine.)

I’m in too Dale, great cause.
I would do it without the whistle but that Fred Rose is definitely an incentive!

Dale

It’s a good cause and I see nothing wrong with it. It merely adds one more brick to the community structure that’s being built online by C&F.

My musical world, already large, was expanded exponentially by Chiff and Fipple. The reason for Chiff and Fipple is you. Of course I’m in. My check will be in the mail by tomorrow morning.
Cheers.

I’m sorry–that was confusing. You’re right. It’s one Fred Rose whistle. You can get chances either by joining the Crisis Center ($55) or by donating to the other charity, TBA.

You honor me with your remarks. I can’t begin to tell you how much I have been rewarded in return for founding Chiff & Fipple. The occasional free whistle is one thing, but the real rewards have been in getting to interact with whistle players worldwide, who are uniformly remarkable people: endlessly kind and generous. Thank you.

Dale

As promised in mmy direct mail to you yesterday Dale, the check is in the mail.
Fun stuff!
