D/C flute combos

Does anybody make a D/C combo flute. You know, one head and two bodies.

I know Hammy and Casey Burns don’t (I already asked).

Seems like I heard once that Pat olwell did.

Anyway, I’d apreciate any info.

Doc

Michael Grinter makes them and here’s a wonderful example of it:

pat olwell has made them; also bryan byrne may as well

That’s so obscene it should be in Flute Porn.

They are a lovely set though as I look between my fingers.

Is that Cocuswood?

I’ve been shivering since I got them on Saturday..

The wood is Blackwood…

Oh, dear! I’m hyperventilating again . . .

I believe Dave Copley will do this.
You might contact him. I think his
C flute body would sound lovely.

Dave do you do this?

Casey Burns says he can do a C, B, Bb, A combo.

Also could do a D, Eb, E combo.

Hmmm, may have to get an E body for my Rudall so I can play those low-end A tunes.

Doc

I’ve not done a D/C combo yet. It would take a prototype and maybe a few tweaks to get something ready for production. I got an initial design together, but lately have been much more interested in the higher pitched flutes, and put most of my effort into getting an “F” flute design ready to go.

Well, I talked to Casey the other day and I’m on the list for just such a beast. I’d never really thought about low-A flutes till the last few months, when I’ve had to transpose both Altan and Chris Norman tunes (more than 1 of each) up from A so that they could be played on D flutes. I dunno that I’ll have much use for a Bflat, but there are a lot of tunes out there that are played on C flutes that just don’t sound the same on a D flute.

Thanks for the heads-up, Doc; I’d been thinking of an A, but never would have thought of adding a C body to it.

I’m gonna have to take the jump too at some point. But I’ll need a Bb body as well. I have two daughters that sing in that key.

Ooh, an F Copley would be extraordinarioly cool. I have Bamboo Olwell F that is one of my major performance flutes. F is a great fluting key.
