Curious about some wood headjoints....

As I was browsing eBay, I came across these wooden headjoints and was curious to see if anyone has tried them. I think some of “you” also play the “shiny, silver flutes” and I wanted to get an opinion about the wooden headjoints. I have a harp playing friend that has roped me into performing with her on occasion, but I start on Irish flute change to whistle and end up on my silver flute. I have a Miyazawa thick wall flute and I was looking for a way to mellow it out to blend better with the harp.

I look forward to your input!
Thanks!!

Hi, M!

I’ve looked at those myself but have never tried them. The price seems pretty reasonable…I have to admit though, I kind of hate the way they look with the faux lip-plate and all, but it would certainly make sense to do it that way…

Anyway, FWIW, David Copley’s been working on a more traditional sans-plate wooden headjoint … Might be worth sending him a note or PM (he’s on this board); he’s right up the road in Cincinnati. I think he’s in the same price range as these guys or maybe a little less … perhaps he’d have one you could try?

Thanks Cat!
I don’t care for the faux lip-plate either and was hoping for something more traditional…which would also help with transitioning between the two instruments. I’ll look into contacting David Copley…I never realized how close he was!

Meadhbh

I have not tried the first one, but the second one is not very refined. Abells and Powells are far better.
