After reading a few threads on how nice Clarkes could be if you just mash the windway down a bit I held out for a good while before I finally tried it on an impulse, and it went well. Then I thought…what happens if I flatten it a little more? It wasn’t long before I tried that too. Then it was only a few minutes before I decided I’d taken it too far. So, I tried to raise the top of the windway back up by squeezing the sides. Eh, it’s sorta back up, but the upper octave E is tricky to play. My musical vocabulary is lacking… the E sounds like I’m blowing too hard and it’s trying to get up to the third octave. Has somebody else done this before and found a remedy for the problem?
It sounds like you deformed the shape of the windway exit and maybe mis-aligned the “aim” of the airstream against the labium lip.
Look down the windway with a strong light source in front of you. The windway should look “rectangular” without any dome shape to the upper lip. There should only be a small slit of light visible below the Labium ramp edge, viewed across the window. The “lip” or bottom of the windway exit should protrude slightly when viewed from the top (looking into the window).
You can certainly try levering the windway back up with a secredriver or pliers or the like. My problem was that I unconciously used the blade as a fulcrum. things went downhill from there.
