Cross Fingerings

Hello, I’ve down the cross fingerings for as many accidentals as I can. I’ve figured out workable fingerings (some aren’t perfect, but will work if used sparingly, in a pinch) for the entire chromatic scale except Fnatural. Yes, I know there’s a key for it, and I actually have that key, but that’s just the kinda guy I am that I can’t stand having a blank slot in my chart.

If anyone out there has any idea as nothing i’ve tried will lower the F# enuff without partially covering a hole (which is horribly inaccurate and tough to do quickly) I’d be much obliged.

Thanks,
Antaine

if you know were i can find this chart tell me, i’m very interrested to know the fingering that will give me a chromatic scale.

P.S the only way a found to have a real chromatic chanter is to order the missing note in keys.

Hi Antaine,

Try playing E off the knee; the pitch should rise to a close appraoximation of F natural (nice tonal effect too).

Good luck,

Larry Dunn

PS- to those who read this before I edited it, I’m an eedjit

okay, pipemaniac - when I get it all done I’ll post it as a reply to this message.

As far as the E off the knee is concerned, it’s still a flat F (as opposed to an F flat which is an E) instead of an F natural, but I suppose it’s prolly the best I’m going to get.

What I do for a fingered F natural is:

1. Lift the ring finger of the bottom hand off while the chanter is off the knee…

2. Move the middle finger beside it up towards the index finger.

What you want to do is move the bone inside the finger while leaving the flesh on the chanter where it belongs thus creating a small opening at the bottom of the hole which raises the pitch just enough to get an in tune F natural. It takes practice to get the note to play in tune so be patient, cos no-one else at the session will

okay, pipemanic - this is what i’ve got - it requires modification on some of the notes in the second octave I’m not sure how this chart’s going to post, but it looks right in this window. above the top line is the back d, below the bottom line is the bottom of the chanter, x=closed hole, o=open hole, d=half covered hole.if you have suggestions let me know :astonished:)

sorry, it eliminated most of my spaces, this is a little better, but make sure you line up the note name with the diagram

lowercase is natural and uppercase is sharp
