Cross-fingered Ab?

Hi all,

I remember one of you guys writing as a BTW that you found a way to cross-finger Ab on your chanter.
Can’t find the post again, though.
Could this have been Uilliam? Anyway, how was it that you did it?

I think the description on the Howard site only works with the Howard key system. The site is correct about half-holing though. I have not found any cross-fingered alternative for this note using either a Rowsome or Taylor style holes/key work. Now Bflat is another story…

I can’t half-hole in the second octave. My chanter just laughs at me. No, really. It does. :laughing:

As pointed out earlier the half holing of the A and opening the G will give ye G#Ab ye can also try just opening the A,lifting the chanter which will give ye an approximation of Ab.(ye may want to vent further holes according to your chanter on the lower hand)Rowesome used the botton 3 fingers off and lifting the chanter(but this was on his chanters which were a little sharp of todays 440 )or ye could use a key. :wink:
or ye could not bother at all,which is even easier.Can’t remember when i last needed it.

Elvind,try sliding the A finger sideways a little bit until ye get it.ie.from right to left(if your right handed) instead of moving the finger up or down to half hole.ye will be using the tip of your finger,if your using a gizzmo it will show G#

I have noticed this gives better effects.
Slightly cumbersome, though.
