Crop Circles? Try Toynbee Tiles

Here’s something i consider weirder than crop circles:

This site speculates that the tiles may be a kind of “urban crop circle”!

Glauber,
That is really strange! I hadn’t heard of this before. Thanks for bringing it up. I always like weirdness on a grand scale. I personally see this sticker that says " Andre the Giants Posse" with a picture of Andre on it, all over the place! Georgia, North Carolina, Indiana, Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Paris. I see it in bars, bathrooms, telephone booths…everywhere! I point them out to my wife, she just laughs at me.

Yes, this is weird. The style and the writing in the tiles is very consistent, which seems to indicate that the same person did them. But how come it’s all over the US, and a few in South America? The ones in S.A. are in bad Spanish and bad Portuguese. Very weird. Who would have the time and money to do this? If you can believe the guy who says he missed the “mad tiler” by a few minutes, they are prepared in advance, then left on the street to be “baked in” by heat and the weight of the cars, so it only takes a couple of minutes to set one up. The “they are out to get me” paranoia and mentions of the USSR in the tiles are also fascinating. I wonder what kind of whistle this guy plays.

I’m not sure if they’re still appearing. It seems it peaked in the early nineties.

I think i’ve seen a few “Andre” signs, but i haven’t seen any of these Toynbee tiles.

We’ve got at least a couple of those Toynbees in Baltimore.

Have you seen them?
Are they still there (i.e. not re-paved or eroded)?
There was one in Chicago too, but i think it’s gone.

Saw one maybe 3 years ago. Don’t know if it’s still there.
