OK, so I’ve been doing this for about 4 months now, and am really enjoying it. However, I don’t know anyone else who plays, and apparently there are no sessions or otherwise in my regularly reachable vicinity. So now what? I feel like I’m stagnating a bit, and am obviously not good enough or at a stage in my life where I can start a session at some bar. I’m going to a workshop at the Comhaltas convention in Boston in a couple of weeks, my first real contact with people who actually do this kind of music regularly…hope I don’t embarass myself too much! It will be interesting to have to answer questions such as, how long have you been doing this (4 months), do you have a teacher (no), where do you play (my sitting room), etc.! Hopefully the “Intermediate” workshops I signed up for will be appropriate…hopefully they’re used to neophytes like me!
Oh well, I guess I’ll just go play into my pillow… :roll:
Robin, you’re in high Irish-American population Massachussetts. I can assure you there is a session within 1 hour of your location. As a matter of fact, I attended one last night…nice little session, one whistler there (Hi Jon!) and plenty of craic.
I was in Amherst at The Harp, just off 91. Maybe sometime I’ll see you there?
I agree with you! Worcester county has nothing. I did go to the CCE session last week and had an awesome time. I, too will be at the convention. We should meet while there - I’ll be taking the flute classes.
While we’re talking CCE, their session is ususallly the first and fourth Sunday of the month in Watertown (50 min drive from Worcester)and AOH in Watertown has a session the third Sunday of the month also in Watertown.
Perhaps we should see how many other musicians in the Worcester area would be interested in sessions? Lets face it - there are a “few” Irish bars &/or restaurants in the area maybe someone might be interested…or maybe check out a VFW hall…but I do think its time for Worcester to catch up!

Crystal, I’ll PM you, I’m sure we can hook up at the convention! I can just see it–a session at O’Connors…he’d probably pass out if he heard me play Irish Trad!!! But it’s an awfully convenient locale…hmmmm…
Tyghress, I’d love to make it out to the Harp, etc. but it really is a bit too far for me unless it’s a special occasion, like we’re travelling on vacation or something. However, next time I’m out that way, I’ll contact you first!

Funny…I was thinking O’connor’s, too. Also thought abouth The Other Place Pub in Boylston and The Old Timers in Clinton as possible session sites. But first, I’ll need to see if there’s a real interest in Worcester County.

With a proddy name like Worchester no wonder it’s got no craic going. Hey, Spittin’, you might want to just hang around the edges of sessions for a while. Some are intolerant of beginners. I’m sure you know that already.
We had a very good fiddler drop in at the slow session that I attend. He remarked “this session has an incredible human dynamic going on…if this were any other place there would be blood on the ground”. Our motto is “No musician will be left behind”. (Of course, we do have a definition of “musician”, and it doesn’t include the fella who bought a bodhran yesterday).
E=Fb - It’s spelled “Worcester” NOT “Worchester”. In fact, we have been known to tell people to get the “H” out of Worcester!
And would you believe how its pronounced??? Sort of like “Wuh-stah” or"wis-tah" Good ol’ Massachusetts accent.
Actually, the only difference between Worcester and yogurt is that Worcester has an active culture!
