OK, so Mack didn’t actualy build this one..but he sure helped me a lot! At the great Rocky Mountain session back in July, Tom and I each had the opportunity to make our own whistles under Mack’s watchful eye. He took us through each step from hacking of a length of pipe from the 10’ stock, all the way down through the delicate process of opening the window and shaping the blade.
I’ve sent a clip to Clips and Snips, and hopefully it’ll be posted there in a couple of days. Again, I need to reiterate that this whistle is NOT made by Mack Hoover, although the design is very similar to his own.
To be fair to Mack, this is the very first whistle I have ever made or even attempted to make in my life, so bear that in mind when listening. Mack’s are a hundred times better! But the timbre is similar, so for those of you interested in picking up one or two or twelve, you’ll have a general idea anyway!
