Mk III bocote II
I had tweaked the design between Mk II and Mk III – the diameter is 1/32 larger, and the fittings are Delrin rather than brass. Both are definite improvements, but I also increased the height of the windway. This makes them a bit more difficult to play; you really have to lean into them and they’re not quite as well balanced. This will definitely appeal to some, not to others.
I won’t be making brass fittings any more, but will go back to the Mk II type voicing unless I get positive feedback on those whistles.
So I’ll be asking $75 for the Mk II’s and $60 for the Mk III’s. I’ll note that the bocote II is about the prettiest whistle I’ve made, but the RH 1 hole is a little out of line – the body is a little longer and didn’t fit in my drilling jig right.
Hi Chas - you tempt me sorely!!! I love the MK1 you sold me last year - sweet little whistle, but I’ve been bad this year so I don’t think I’m going to find one in my stocking this time… plus I’m waiting on my Forbes flute to arrive.
Folks - IMO these whistles deserve good homes - snap 'em up! ; )
Received the MkII purpleheart today and it’s a beautiful whistle to behold, very nicely made, with a beautiful balanced tone through both octaves. The overall high quality of this whistle certainly belies its price. I may do a review after playing it for a while.
Charlie, thanks for making such a quality wood whistle available at a great price.
