Hammy Hamilton, world famous flute maker and player, has recently succombed to the pressure of friends and customers to apply his considerable talents to the creation of a tunable low D Irish whistle.
The design of the headjoint is reminiscent of a Sindt in that the head itself is moved for tuning purposes. It has a unique, longish fipple with a curved windway. The tube and head are aluminum with the fipple being primarily delrin.
The whistle has moderate to low back pressure and a growly, wonderful, traditional sound. This is a wonderful whistle with rich, complex, undertones.
Hammy is a brilliant instrument maker and has added another winner to his line. I have them in stock for imediate shipment.
How strong is the bottom D compared to a Burke Viper? What about overall volume compared to a Burke Viper, if anyone had had the chance to play the two side-by-side?
Doc Jones may be the only one here that can answer that question for you directly. However I would not let your hand size discourage you from trying any low D. I have smallish hands for a man and I have not had much difficulty playing any low D using the piper’s grip. Go for it!

I would really like to know how Hammy’s low D compares to the Burke Viper now too…all be cause of Feadoggie’s nudge However, I will make a new post about that…I don’t want to hijack this post.

Actually let’s not try the whistles on the bridge. I’d hate to see one go over the side.
This is a genuine offer though. And if you just want to try the Burkes, it can be arranged. I have an EZ and two Pro low D Burkes you can try. I am interested in examining a Hamilton low D but the funds aren’t there at the moment to buy one.
