NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT

A new whistle design is born, it called “The Town Square Whistle”
Named as such because it is a square bore whistle.
Currently available in Low-D (please email in regards to other nearby keys, such as Low-C ect)

The spacing is similar to the Practice whistle, those with moderate sized hands can fingertip play it.
Piper’s grip seems to work fine even with the flat surface.
Average turn around time, 4 weeks.
It’s a totally different style whistle than my previous designs, it takes a just little longer to make because of the voicing method.

Specification:
Material: 1" Outside Width, aluminum tubing, 0.062" Wall Thickness
Windway Block Material: Western Red Cedar
Block Mounting: CA Glue and finishing nails
Finish: Shellac (keeps aluminum from getting on fingers)
Volume: Loud
Range: 2 Octaves, you have two vent the top corner of the top tonehole to speak the highest two notes.

Bore width: 0.88, but is functionally equivalent to a 1 inch diameter round whistle
The fipple window is 0.88" wide by 0.225 across. The ramp is milled to shape and then pressed down to level with the windway floor. The windway floor is deeper at the mouth end and tapers down to 0.0425" at the point where the air enters the window.

Tonehole diameters (top to bottom):
7/16"
3/8"
5/16"
3/8"
7/16"
1/4"

The finger stretch values are: (top to bottom)
Top Hand:
1.41"
1.18"

Bottom Hand:
1.21"
1.31"

Cool! My $31 low D should be in any day, and I’m looking forward to that as well. Love the creativity!

I played it last night at my Congregation, it definitely qualifies as a session instrument. I was playing against drums, two electric guitars and one bass. There were a few times though when I decided to pop into the second octave for bit more volume.

Very nifty Dan’l… now if you could figure out how to make square finger holes… :smiley:

One big advantage: this whistle won’t roll off the table!

You’re right, it doesn’t roll of the table.

Square tonholes, those require very specialized square drills. :wink:

I don’t know about metal, but I have seen square hole drills for wood.

I’ve seen the mortising drills as well, they’re used by cabinet makers. I was attempting to be humorous about square holes.

I have noiticed Amerindians in Bolivia playing traditional square bodied whistles carved out of wood.
