CP - Ahava Rabba Low-D (C Extension) Open Source Design

I’m finally getting caught up with whistle orders and very soon I will have a
Low-D in Ahava Rabba mode. Like the high whistle, it will have seven tone holes.
The bottom hole hole, which descends below the D scale to C which is needed for JTM (that’s Jewish Traditional Music, not the meat packing company) (aka Klezmer) will be a keyed note. It will be using a normally open key like the one used for the Low-D on the Chromatic whistle.
I know, some people don’t like keys but it’s only way to reach that note with human hands.

I haven’t heard of whistle players getting prosthetic extension fingers yet - such an item might even violate the C&F rules on medical subjects  The though of such an item is humorous, but I just image a few of you just thinking about it.

Using a brass 7/8" OD tube with 0.28" WT. Approximate tubing length (unchecked) is 633 mm.
Designed to fit in a Jubilee Brass Low Whistle Headjoint.
The positions from the bottom are:
pos (mm) hole (inch dia)
364 9/32"
332 7/32"
308 5/16"
248 17/64"
223 5/16"
196 11/64"
119 9/32"

That makes the top two holes (going down)
1.25" and 0.96"

And then lower hands top two holes
0.97" and 1.08"

And tonehole for the key will be at 3.02" from the other tonehole.
Three inches is too far but the 9/32" diameter hole should speak okay and be accessible using the key.

This is experimental and subject to change. This topic is open for anyone who have comments on the spacing or materials this is an “Open Source Whistle Design” which is free to others who might want to make their own.
The term “Open Source” is a software term. For whistles, the “source” applies to dimensions of the instrument.

For those few of you who are relative scale challeneged , D Ahava Rabba gives Harmonic Minor from G.
The three finger tonic is perfect for traditional hindustani classical interpretation which likes dip downs to the perfect 5th and even the perfect 4th (just as middle eastern and klezmer prefers dip downs to the low 7th). Kirwani is the only raaga in this music that I am aware of that uses the harmonic min. scale.

Also consider all the G major jigs, reels and things that you could do and they would turn out radically Balkanish.

Daniel’s Ahava Rabba whistles are magic. Everyone should have one, and they’re very reasonably priced.

Best wishes,
Jerry
