The set of pipes on our DUPG-site (Deutsche Uilleann Pipes Gesellschaft = German Uilleann Pipers´ Association) really was “below everybody´s pig” and is going to be replaced now. How do we avoid any copyright- problems?
Best,
Hans
I don’t understand what you mean by “below everybody´s pig” ![]()
It would be helpful when you make a web reference to include the URL: http://dupg.org/. That way, everyone will know what you are talking about. I don’t see any images - perhaps you have taken it down (?).
For copyright, if you did not create the image or photograph, you must seek written permission from the owner. If it is an original image (drawing, painting, etc.) you must seek permission. If you did not create the file of the image, but copied it from somewhere else, you must seek permission. If it is an historical image, you can redraw it yourself
, but if you copy someone else’s file of that image, you must seek their permission.

Sorry, my fault, it really doestn´t make sense. “Below everybody´s pig” is a (to Germans) extremely funny verbal translation (BTW a friend of mine from Toronto made that up) of the common German saying “Unter Aller Sau” meaning below a very low standard; absolutely bad. BTW, what do you say?
Hans
The German term “unter aller Sau” translates roughly as “lousy”. We’d love to show a pic of a REALLY nice set to replace the old one. Best guess would be to ask DUPG members to submit photographs of their imstruments. Or maybe one of the Chiffboard members gives permission to have a pic of his/her set published on the DUPG website?
Ich spreche nicht Deutsches. In my limited experience, it is not easy to take a GOOD photo of a set of pipes. Perhaps you could get a member who is a talented photographer to come to a group meeting where there will be several members’ sets to choose from and get a good image that way.

Servus Hans-Joerg,
do what I did and take pictures of a really bad set (in my case it was my Pakistani full-set). The shame that will bring to the club results in several people rushing forward with pictures of their pipes.

Unfortunately, that is what the webmaster did and noone complained for 4 years! ![]()
Here’s an idea. Why not have a competition? Get people to submit photos of their sets. Best photo gets chosen for DUPG homepage. The copyright question is dealt with if you specify in the competition rules that all images entered in the competition become the property of DUPG. This is standard in all competitions, even tv programs, in which people submit photos or videos.
Hans/Christian… I have sent the pictures of the C and B(Heike and Andreas) sets to Ingeborg..German sets for a German Club…Ye can easily crop the background or colour it in …
