apparently a dulcimer.
I want one of those. It’s so pretty. But I know I’d get it, touch it twice, then it would become a pretty like so many other instruments.
I just sold my dulcimer on eBay. I listed it, and less than 2 hours later it was sold.
And is it just the way I’m looking at it, or is that woman missing a big chunk of her hair?

Fly - this is probably a scheitholt, or maybe some type of cittera - both are thought of as “precursors” to the mountain dulcimer, along with the hummel.

That would be as opposed to the “hummer” ![]()
When somebody says “hummer”, instead of flashing to the vehicle, my mind usually goes to this first:

“It is truly awesome,” says Tom.
Yep.
I think I figured out what the tune was.
It’s a hummell/humle. Very cool instrument. It has the three courses normal to an Appalachian dulcimer, plus a few courses of drones that can be tuned however you see fit. Mine has about 15 strings total. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of it.
Kate Price and Mark Nelson are the only people I’m familiar with who have recorded with it. I especially like Kate’s playing on “The time between” and “Deep heart’s core.”
