Connectivity to the board

Anna Martinez is emailing me and saying she hasn’t been able to get on the chiffboard for several days. I told her I didn’t know of any problem, except for those outages we had for an evening or so…whenever that was last week. Anyway, she says she still can’t connect and she emailed some friends who say they can’t connect. Any ideas abouit what could be going on?

Too much un-American activity, perhaps?

There are two ways this can happen: blocking by virus/firewall/anti-spam softwre on your PC, blocking on the network by your ISP. Best to check your own set-up first to make sure you haven’t accidentally blocked C&F in your software. If you’re sure, then take it to your ISP to investigate (don’t take any lame excuses from them, they will fight to avoid it).

There’s probably a router issue between them and you. If her or her friends are knowledgeable enough, a traceroute might show where the problem lies. But if they had that kind of knowlege, they’d have probably already tried it

I don’t know what could be causing it, but . . . umm . . . would you kindly give my email address to her? I’d hate to lose contact and miss that dinner she offered me . . .

I’ve had a few instances lately where I could not connect to the Chiff but all my other regular haunts were fine.
The problems only lasted a few minutes at a time.

I blame this terrible heat.

Slan,
D.

Yes as Dubh said, short breaks, connections timing out but all normal after a few minutes.

Same here, over the last few days, in this heat. I blame power outages affecting a router along my particular route to C&F’s message board server.

During that past couple of days, I encountered a 504 error message instead of C&F. But all seems back to normal now.
