Could somebody write me a concerto? I’d like one that is within the range A B c d e f g a b c’ d’ e’ f’. A few accidentals are fine, such as to put it in F or G. Major, minor, dorian, mixolydian, any mode is fine. I’d just like a concerto to call my own.
Is there a reason? Not really. I’d just like to have one. Maybe tab it on my ocarina or whistle site… I don’t know.
I’m not picky, really. Doesn’t have to be scored for full orchestra. Just a melody line is enough, and as few as one or one and a half movements, if you prefer.
I should know better than to reply to someone who is well on their way to 4000 posts but what the heck. If someone writes a concerto for you are you really going to be able to call it your own? I was going through some of the pieces in the earlier Suzuki violin books looking for pieces that worked for whistle, note wise. Some work, others don’t. Sometimes a good portion of the piece works before it ventures into minor territory and the notes aren’t available on the whistle. Dvorak’s Humoresque is an example of such a piece. From another source I found a violin concerto by Vivaldi that works nicely on whistle. I’ve only played the first movement but it looks as though all 3 are whistle friendly. It’s in D major, Op. 3, Number 9. Maybe working on a concerto or 2 like this will start to give you a feel for them and you can begin to write your own, to call your own. -mike — ps- If you’d like a copy of this concerto let me know and I’ll send it to you.
I don’t think just a melody line would qualify as a concerto. Isn’t a concerto, by definition, comprised of parts for an orchestra and a solo instrument?
The Classical Music Archive is a great place to find almost any piece of classical music. I had gotten one of those keyboards with the floppy drive and am able to download pieces onto floppy discs which in turn will play on the keyboard’s floppy. You can download or listen to 5 pieces a day for free or for $25. a year have access to hundreds of files a month- I forget the exact limit but it’s alot. There’s another site, I think it’s called ‘on classical’ that is totally free but not quite as extensive as the other. -mike
