Is there any opinions about Wide bore concert D chanter advantages. I already know that they are louder for sessions and friendly with other musicians. I found on this forum many posts about why many people prefer flat chanter, but not why concert D. Advantages in tone & playing?
If you prefer the flat sound, then not really. Playability is usually better for flat chanters, but a top notch wide bore chanter will still beat a mediocre narrow bore one. Beware of advice that flat chanters have a much bigger hand stretch; some do, some don’t. Most people who own both would characterize flat chanters as ‘easier to play.’
If you don’t care about volume, playing in sessions or casually with others, and don’t naturally prefer the wide bore sound, then the main reason to have a wide bore concert pitch chanter is ease in participating in classes. Many folks have them for just that reason.
But the sounds are so totally different that it is hard to compare them directly; you either prefer one over the other or you don’t.
