For the longest time Tyghre and I thought that our connection to the net was slow, as all the internet radios and such were coming in ‘slow’. Not really slow, but with the pitch low. Today we realized that it isn’t our connection, it is one computer in the house…the one we listen to most…the kitchen laptop.
We’ve gone through all sorts of checks, scans and such, but can’t find anything that would cause this.
Is it only internet related sound that is causing the problem?? Does it happen when playing a cd for example. My first thought would be to update the drivers for the sound chip of your laptop and ditto for the software you are using to listen to internet radio to see if it cures the problem. If that doesn’t work then getting the laptop checked first for viruses etc and then the hardware might be needed.
I am assuming that the laptop will have some version of an AC97 sound chip, the manufacturer’s website should have the latest versions of the drivers for your machine, maybe even details of how to fix the problem if it has occurred before.
You may have made some upgrades to your operating system lately (?). The driveer tells your system how to talk to a specific piece of equipment. There’s a software driver for your CD player and one for your sound card. The version of the software drivers is be very specific to the version of your operating system. If you are using updates from Microsoft for Windows you may have updated some component that is “not quite” compatible with the software drivers for your equipment.
Windows XP Home…
We seem to be having issue on all machines, but each one appears to be different. On the downstairs laptop not even the CD’s play correctly. I’m just baffled. No updates to the OS, no changes to the hardware.
