Hi Folks -
Thanks very much to everyone who offered all the kind words about my mom’s music. Due to popular request, I’ve posted 11 mp3s in total. 10 of them are from a concert she gave last August. One is a recent studio track.
Only 4 of them feature whistle, but if you like the tracks with the whistle I’m willing to bet you’ll want more, whether there is whistle or not.
A little background on my mom. Her name is Nadine Laughlin. She’s 43 years old, a lifetime nurse and a mother of 4 (of which I, at 24, am the oldest). She and my dad have been married for 25 years and they’re still going strong.
We live out in the middle of the beautiful woods, in a town of 650 people in New Hampshire. We used to have a general store, a post office and a gas station, but they all burned down, so now we have none of the above. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world ![]()
My mom has been playing the piano and singing since she was quite young, but never professionally. She has only given two concerts as the featured performance so far and maybe four or five on the stage with other singer/songwriters. She’s not famous. She doesn’t make any money off this music. She doesn’t have a publicly released CD (though we’re working on it). This is just music she makes because she loves it and needs it as her personal expression.
So, I hope you all really like this music. Please let us know what you think. If you like them please send my mom a message to let her know. Send them to nadine@REMOVETHISSPAMBLOCKERnadinelaughlin.com . Get rid of the REMOVETHISSPAMBLOCKER stuff and it’ll go right to her. I know she’d love to hear from you. In the meantime, please download these mp3s, burn them to CD and pass them on to anyone you think might like them ![]()
All music here was written and performed by Nadine Laughlin (except Be Thou My Vision), and is copyrighted. On all tracks she is lead voice and piano.
Here are links to the tracks. Right click on them and choose “save target as” to save to your computer.
The original concert order of these songs was: The Flame, You Found Me, Davy, Old Man’s Tears, Broken Glass, Maybe Then, Almost Gone, Pray for Grace, Staying, Be Thou My Vision.
This first track is a studio recording, done recently.
Studio Version of Almost Gone - This track was written by mom for her dad while he was dieing from alzheimers. On it I play a Burke composite low G.
The remaining tracks were recorded at a house concert in Dublin, NH during August, 2002.
Live Version of Almost Gone - As above.
Pray for Grace - I play a Sindt A on this track.
Be Thou My Vision- This is our arrangement of the popular hymn. I play my Burke composite low G here. Astute observers may notice a striking similarity between the whistle introduction here and the air by Tommy Peoples, The Gentle Breeze. This is intentional. I’m friends with Tommy and it’s not a problem. I would have liked to play the whole air, as he wrote it, but time, and my mom’s preferences, dictated otherwise. Much thanks go to Tommy for the inspiration.

My mom and baby Eric Cartman… er, me. She still looks the same. Unfortunately, so do I ![]()

My girlfriend Rebecca, my mom, my dad and I (notice the whistle pendant on my neck
).
