The latest instalment of Come West along the Road on RTE just now resurrected a documentary on the McPeakes of Belfast, made for Ulster Television during the seventies. Lovely stuff, loads of piping, bits of pipemaking and a lot of talk of a great Belfast tradition.
My first “flute camp” class was with Francis (III? IV?) in Milwaukee at their Irish Fest few years back. Such a nice guy (exceptionally kind and diplomatic!). Watching him was also the first time I got to see someone play a full set of pipes live. It was awe-inspiring. I enjoyed seeing the family on stage, too. He gave us “The Yellow Wattle.” I’ll have to get that back out and see if I can move it to my practice set.
