Can anyone who has both tell me how the sizes of the tone holes on a Colin Goldie low D compare to a Howard low D?
Not looking for exact measurements, just a rough comparison of tone hole size and also reach.
Thanks.

I don’t have a Howard, but here are my Goldie-Overton measurements.

4 8.3 9.0
5 11.9 12.2
6 8.5 9.1
Hole Spacing - from bottom, to center (mm)

Hmmmmm… . . . now just where can a person buy an oval drill?
Ask Colin.
Measured with a digital caliper, and they’re definitely not circular.
Colin files the holes on the length-side of the holes. I think that’ll make the difference.
OK, I just took some quick measurements of my Overton low D, and the holes look round to the eye. But upon measuring I found them to be from .006’’ to .027’’ longer than wide. Fascinating.
I don’t have a micrometer, but going by naked eye, the tone holes on my high D Colin Goldie Overton also seem to be slightly oval.
