Yes I have decided to sell my cocus Olwell! The plate is Olwellian, one of the first he sold that came with it
The pictures don’t really do the real thing justice if you ask me. Its a very yummy flute…

I don’t think so. Olwell cocus prattens have
considerable volume, anyhow.

Cocus isn’t any softer or louder than Grenadilla (blackwood), it does have a slightly different tonal characterstic - Cocus, to my ear, is somewhat more focused and clearer sounding than blackwood, or to use Patrick Olwell’s own words, Cocus is more “Glassy” sounding.

As some have said they don’t understand the appeal of boxwood, I do not understand the appeal of modern cocus. Old cocus has character, but I find modern cocus to be uninteresting in appearance and tone. I don’t find it to be as focused as blackwood or as buttery as boxwood.
I think maybe your lack of interest in the look of Cocus colors your perception of the tone 
Oddly enough this reminds me that choice of wood can also play a part in making you sound like you. When it comes to blackwood vs. cocus for instance, I always have a hard time imagining Larry Nugent swapping his blackwood Olwell for a Cocus model…Even though I prefer Cocus flutes myself (allergies aside), I wouldn’t want to hear Nugent playing Cocus (I don’t think) I mean I love the dark, smokey, earthy tone he has - switch to Cocus and some of that would be lost. (Although many will argue a difference can’t be heard :roll: )

I was certainly open to enjoying the tone and playability of cocus. The appearance had nothing to do with my opinion of the tone, but every embouchure hole is different, so that could account for it.
