I typed “un-clog a whistle” into the search
engine and got replies about taxes and anagrams…is the search button not working
or is that why people ask the same things over and over???
Anyway, I have tried everything to un-clog a year-old whistle. It suddently squeekes
VERY badly. Could it just be “broken” i.e.
something wrong with the fipple. Its a Bflat
so I don’t play that one for hours every day!

Did it begin squeaking after a while of playing it steadily? Or did you just pick it up and find that it squeaked badly the first time you put air through it today?
BTW, I loved your CDs. When will there be a third one? The only complaint I have is that the way they’re engineered, the harp is louder than your whistling. I realize it’s supposed to be that way, but I wish they were equally loud.
Hi Blackhawk, Thanks for liking the c.d.s.
Yes, the harp is louder; a man’s ego is more fragile than 2 ladies’ feelings, ha ha ha.
I have a heck of a time at the live shows
too, and even the audience tells him to turn me up!
I THINK I had been playing a bunch of
whistles on various songs. When I got to
that one’s turn again, it suddenly squeeked
real bad on a middle D…finger up or
finger down. I washed it with soap; I washed
it in plain water; I cut up a lawyers’
business card and ran it thru the wind-way;
I blew thru it really hard, etc., etc.
And it still doesn’t want to play right, and I can feel it in or near my mouth when
I blow it.
Does that help you decide?

No, I was just trying to sound intelligent. OK, I’m kidding there…I never try to sound intelligent. Actually, with all you’ve told me, it just doesn’t make sense, unless you walked away and while you were gone someone dropped an anvil on it. Hopefully it wasn’t too expensive. Sounds like it might be a cracked fipple.
Its a Sustato, so probably only $30.00.
How would I crack its Fipple..I wasn’t doing
anything “odd” with it? ha ha
Oh, I don’t think we will get a new album
out until next year. They live near that
HUGE fire in Oregon. It got to within 4
miles of their property, so they packed up all their belongings and moved them into a
storage shed in a town about an hour away. It will take him forever to get that studio with those millions of wires all back together again! And the fire is still
raging; but now 17 miles away from them.
We even have the smoke down here in Reno, 8 hours away.

It has more to do with magic than science, I guess.
You probably need to contact Susato about it. From my brief experience with Michael Kelischek, customer satisfaction seems to be a priority. As an example, I have a VSB-D, on which the fipple came loose from the retainer ring, and he sent me a new mouthpiece assembly free of charge. Worth a try. At least he can give you some very good ideas of what to look for, as well as a possible solution.
