cleaning public "display" whistles?

Ha ha.. if they try the whistles long enough, they’ll also be convinced that they are incredibly good looking, they’re great dancers, and that formerly homely looking guy/gal across the room is starting to look better and better..

Whistle goggles.

Thanks everyone for your ideas

cheers,

Store bought Hydrogen Peroxide is about 3% and totally harmless.

The Torpedoes in German subs of WWII used about a 44% variety which does react with alumnium.

I asked my family Dr about this. He was pretty noncommittal but gave the impression that Peroxide might be worthless as a disinfectant.

A nurse I know tells me that they use rubbing alcohol to wipe down the mouth peices on CPR training dolls.

fyi

I hope this doesn’t seem impertinent, but I wouldn’t consider a family doctor to be someone with particular expertise in this area (I live with a family doctor, btw.).

I’m still interested in knowing more precisely how effective 3% hydrogen peroxide is as a disinfectant. I can’t use alcohol because I’m sensitive to the fumes.

Best wishes,
Jerry

This is hard to track down, but I’m getting the impression that H2O2 is a pretty good disinfectant. Many references indicate it’s very effective against bacteria, and two references I’ve found indicate it’s effective against viruses as well. One was a set of instructions for using H202 to protect domestic birds against certain viruses that are known to cause problems, and the other reference, in a pharmacology discussion thread was:

The book, Disinfection, Sterilization and Preservation, 3rd edition (I believe that there is a 4th revision now), by Seymour S. Block addresses the use of H2O2 as a disinfectant and a sterilant. This antimicrobial agent has been demonstrated to be quite effective as a hard surface disinfectant in concentrations of 3-6% against vegetative bacteria and viruses.

Best wishes,
Jerry

They treat the incisions during the operations with 3% peroxide and/or iodine.
So it is harmless (in that concentration), and it is disinfectant, there’s no question about it.
