Clarkes Original Black or Natural???

Hi,
I am looking at buying a Clarke, but is the natural finish the same as the black original. Does the nat finish still have the wooden fipple,(the pictures i have seen looks like they dont???
They also do the classy black but i think this does not have a wooden fipple.
The sound must be so different, between the plastic and wooden fipple types?
Is there any who could possibly clarify this for me.
Thankyou… All the Best to you and your family this Christmas everyone…

The ‘natural’ one is unpainted. There is also a black one with diamonds, and a black one that looks a bit more grown up. But it’s only the paint job that’s different. All the variants of Clarkes Original have wooden fipples and I don’t think the paint has any effect on tone. I like the unpainted one a lot for it’s looks, but the tweaked version available from the Whistle Shop is excellent.

Also there are Clarke Sweetones which also
come in both painted and unfinished.
Maybe you saw these? The Sweetone
has a plastic mouthpiece.

The Clarke Origs. have a much breathier tone than the Clarke Sweetones. The Clarke Origs. sound much more “flute-like.” The Sweetones (from what I hear from playing them) have a tone similar to a Generation, however, they seem to be much more consistent in quality, and they aren’t quite as edgy… Both are great whistles and I love mine dearly.

So the Orig Nat and Black with Diamonds and the classy looking black have wooden fipples…

Hi Tony,
Yes they all have the wooden block, I only have the Black/Gold, They are nice sounding whistles,IMO, they need a bit more air than other low end whistles such as Feadog etc but with their soft breathy tone are great for slower tunes.

Cheers, Mac

Right, Tony.

By the way, I think the paint does affect the tone. The painted ones sound better to me. Somehow richer in tone. These are originals I’m talking about. With the Sweetones and Megs I don’t detect a difference in tone between painted and unpainted.
