I got a clarke original D and a susato vsb D today… As a new player who doesn’t know any better, I like them both just fine, But the clarke takes a lot of breath to be sure!
The susato sounds quite nice, and is pretty quiet, but getting a smooth D out of it is really hard! The high notes are easy by comparison.
I also realized that whistling is the perfect accompaniment to my next-in- line favorite hobby, hunting wild edible mushrooms. With the two combined I must look like a nutcase, but its more fun than ever.
Also, what’s with the seam down the clarke? I wish I could sand it down or something.
I’m wondering, does anyone else have trouble playing low notes on a susato?

You have two pretty oposite whistles there. Breath control is the main tool for whistle playing. The bottom D on many whistles is at first difficult.
You probably know how easy it is on the Clarke. When you start to breathe a song you will have it. You will also get use to the seem on the Clarke as you play it. In fact you will forget its even there. Be patient with yourself and give each whistle a chance to please you.

I did at first (on the VSB) but I got the hang of it in a few days. It just takes some breath control.
