Anyone been in touch with CJ Dixon lately? I tried searching for his website but I couldn’t find it. Has the address changed? Is he still making pipes?
I don’t know what his thing is. Several years ago I sent him $600 downpayment for a set of drones, and after around five years had gone by he refunded my money. (Mind you, when I sent him the money he said his wait time was 6 months.)
So then I picked up a used set of drones, nicer than I would have got from CJ, from a forum member here, for less money.
At least CJ refunded my money! There’s a Highland pipe maker who evidently doesn’t do much in the way of ‘making’ anymore. He collects downpayments and then never makes anything. Also many people have sent him vintage pipes for work and these are never seen again. Finally the word seems to have got out on that guy.
Who was this highland pipe maker? I’m curious. ![]()
Having the same trouble. CJ did some work for me a few years back and I was quite happy with it.
I acquired one of his chanters recently and sent him an email last week requesting to get a reed made. No response to that email (so far at least).
Also noticed that his website is down. You out there man?!?

I had a similar situation to pancelticpiper. I sent CJ a 50% deposit of $1500 for a half set + $215 for extra chanter keys in April 2008. After much inquiring over the course of four and a half years I was told that my set materials had been gathered and he had started working on my half set. Then in 2013 I received an email from him stating:
Hi Matt,
I’m glad to hear you have made a nice move into the country and I hope it brings you much happiness with you and your family.
I have had to make some very tough decisions recently and as a result, I am no longer able to make pipes and so cannot complete your order. My sincere appologies and know this isn’t easy for me. If you would please provide me with your paypal address, I will refund you your deposit of $1715 USD.
All the best,
Chris
Needless to say I’m glad he was honorable enough to refund me my money but I was bummed out that after 5 years of waiting I never received my half set. In fact, I was so disappointed that I decided to move on from my desire to own a set of UPs. Now I’ve got my sights set on acquiring a set of Northumbrian smallpipes which will cost A LOT less and be far easier to obtain.
My two cents…
Matt
