Christmas gifts suggestions ?

Hello to you all out there,

I am making up a wee UP related stuff wish list for next Christmas. Keeping in mind that I am new to UP, here is what I have asked Santa so far:

-Heather Clark tutor and CD (I already have NPU video vol 1 (the toothfairy brought this one :smiley: ))
-NPU video vol 2
-The drones and the chanters CD (vol 1,2 and 3)
-NPU membership

Does this sound like a good list ? Anything not worth it in there or anything else that should absolutely be there. Don’t forget that Santa doesn’t have that big a bag, so let’s not get carried away ! :laughing:

I would certainly add to your wish list the CD “Kitty Lie Over”, the album from Mick O’Brien and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh.

And listen, listen, listen.

In my opinion, the tune selection and the stylings of the two musicians are fantastic.

Be advised, however, that Mick plays a flat set on the album, so trying to play along with a D set will be noisy.

Oh yes! This is fabulous stuff alright. He plays a B and a Bb set on there. Just buy a Bb whistle for the Bb tunes and a C whistle for the B tunes. Pull the fipple out as far as it will go and tape it into position. Stuff a pipecleaner up the bore with a bend at the bell to hold it in place, this’ll flatten the whistle enough to be able to play along in B. Better than spending $100 smackers on a whistle if you ask me. I did it with my generation and it works a treat, nice mellow tone too… yum yum!

And the tempo - the TEMPO these two play on this album, is, again, IMO, fantastic!

You can listen to each and every track and think, “These guys are ENJOYING what they’re doing.”

Who needs speed?

I think I would wish for a replacement set of reeds made by the good folk (but what would be the cost???).

Hi Martin,

Think about adding a chromatic tuner to your list. (Did you buy a practice set, or a half or full set?)

Also, the Mad For Trad Uilleann CDROM by Sean Og Potts is pretty good.

Buy the wife some earplugs…
