Chris Norman's Port Atoll

Most tunes I do not need the sheet mucic, I can remember them. But this tune (port) is just too complicated to do by heart exactly as Chris Norman does it. It is on his cd “The Caledonian Fluet” #6, Port Atoll. I heard it as a boy, it came to me through my grandfather, Bruce McIntosh.
I have a Finale 2002 software that will print notes from its MIDE input of a microphone, but it does not work too well.
Does anyone have the sheet music for this song, or know where I can get it.

He seems to be very interested in promoting Scottish flute music, and maybe you could even convince him to publish some of this stuff!

I went over the first couple of bars of that tune on my flute but it’s an octave higher because Chris is using an A flute. It’s listed as made by an anonymous maker in the notes. A flutes aren’t all that common (well, I don’t have one) but if you have a A whistle, try it on that and I think you’ll get it.

Does this mean you transposed it on paper or just played it by ear in D?

I played it in a different key. My intent was to write it down, but I found that it was simple enough to learn so didn’t bother to transcribe it.

Why is it so easy to learn by ear and so difficult to write it down?
Here is my attempt, but Chris holds the long notes longer than I could note down using a fixed 4/4 meter. I also left out the variation in the second octave.
