It may have been suggested before but how about a chiff & fipple Tionol or would that be a recipe for disaster seeing that strong opinions, tempers and Guinness don’t mix . One thing is for sure the music would be good ,there are plenty of fine pipers who contribute to this forum getting them all in one place is bound to be worth it . Location may be a problem seeing we are all from the four corners of the earth ,but how about Dingle Co Kerry (my back garden) plenty of good pubs ,good music and good craic
One other thing ,it would be great to put faces to the posts(is that really Lorenzo with his chopper in his hand)I myself am six foot two look like Brad pitt and my trouser drone is twelve inches long which I can tune from Eb when its cold right down to Cnat if Iam in the mood ,althrough some people have remarked that I look like an obese hobbit but they are just jealous ! I think
I think it is a pretty cool idea, but as others pointed out, kind of a bear to get to, not to mention the cost of lengthy travel. Still, I would be willing to show up at one providing there was enough advanced notice (gotta have time to save up some funds) prior to the event. Worth looking into a little further…

Some time ago, I made the suggestion of starting an annual tionol in Thailand to be held sometime in the mid-winter when airfare would be cheap and climate conditions in the area would be delightfully warm, yet fairly accomodating and suitable humidity-wise. Plus, as no pipers that I am aware of live in or around Thailand, no one could bitch about it being too close for some people and too far away for others.
I still think this is a bloody fantastic idea.
Don’t forget your popping pads and Bermuda shorts…

Rory–so you live in Dingle, eh? Do you see much of Eoin Duignan or Con Durham there? Both very kind people and very helpful to me in my first formative months of piping…Loved the pubs (for those of you who aren’t aware, Dingle has the highest per capita pubs to people ratio of anywhere in Ireland…something like one pub for every 11 people in town). I’ m dying to get back…maybe I’ll see you sometime at a session down at “An Chonair.”
This year’s C & F Tionol will be a week-long affair.
Attending pipers: Neil Mulligan, Dicky Deegan, Mick O’Brien,
Liam O’Flynn, Brendan Ring, Tommy Martin, David Power, Kevin Rowsome, Davy Spillane, Paddy Keenan
and Eric Rigler.
We are still awaiting word from the other 5 pipers who are adjusting their
schedules for this event.
Other important attendees will be Koehler & Quinn, Alan Froment,
Geoff Wooff, Kirk Lynch and Dave Williams, who will all be showing their
wares, (each bringing with them several sets of pipes that will be for immediate sale) along with reed-making, maintenance and discussion sessions.
There will be concerts each night, and… what? Wow, I must have dozed off. What a dream!

actually, several C and F members are booked onto ‘The First Annual Floating Tionol’ happening here in England In the third week of June. So maybe this can count. As the name suggests this is the first time I have run the event, and we now have enough bookings to break even. hooray. Here’s a place on the West-coast (USA) that we can use for a Tionol. This castle was built by a friend of mine in the Columbia River Gorge, right on the White Salmon River. He has Irish sessions at his place all the time, and a bar in the daylight basement that overlooks the river. 5-story castle, acres of flat lawns, parking lot for a hundred cars, a couple guest cabins, and a small lake in front of the castle.
