When you receive the Chiff & Fipple newsletter, in which of these formats would you prefer to receive it?

  • Plain text (with a link to the web version. Short file, but displays no images and formatting will be different)
  • HTML (larger file, includes pictures & formatting, looks just like the web version, requires that your email browser be able to accept html messages & display them).

I think sending out html email is impolite, like overstaying your welcome at someone’s house.

I like it the way it is. Dial-up is too slow to get large HTML mail messages - it takes forever to download…

I don’t think an HTML format within the email is a good idea. Many accounts have a maximum size cap, and if email is not checked in a while it’s easy to go over the limit when HTML messages are received. (A lot of spam is html now, too…)

I don’t know that it’s necessary to even make a plain text version, though, Dale. Anyone who can get online to check email can get online to read the HTML page, and it’s more work for you to make two versions. I’d recommend having the email announcement provide a link to an HTML version on the web, and leave it at that.

In an ideal sense, its more attractive but many of us who use the computer a lot are bombarded with so much color and images from various sources, that a counter impulse towards just text may result (has in me, anyhoo). I am more likely to read it all if its right there.

Neither nor.

A simple alert that there is a new newsletter, with a hotlink to the HTML version on Cand F would be my preference. In fact even an alert on the forum would be sufficient for me.
