Chiff and Fipple: meanings/significance

Hello again, all,
When I first saw the name of this site, I had thought it was just a name Mr. Wisely pulled out of the air to catch people’s attention. But since coming on the board, I’ve seen people refer to Chiff and Fipple separately in posts, such as the one where someone mensions a whistle with no chiff. So I’m curious, what exactly do chiff and fipple refer to?

Terry

Hi Terry,

This is a hard one to search for in the archives, since nearly every post contains at least one of these words!

Dale does explain in the FAQs, though:

(edited because I hit the “submit” button too early!)
(and edited again to correct bizarre grammar)

OK., thanks. '-) I didn’t see that there; there’s so much out there on the page that sometimes I miss something. Plus so many FAQ’s I’ve run into are as dull as an un-sharpened pencil, although I must say that Mr. Wisely has done a great job with his; it doesn’t threaten to put me to sleep.

You’re right about there being so much info on the website. I’ve been spending far too much time here for nearly a year now, and I still keep finding fun things there, that I hadn’t noticed before.
