Hi
An excellent concert. Sean Keane and Martin Fay wern’t with the group but it was interesting to see the new line up. By the way who went to it and what did you think?

Martin Fay has retired, hasn’t he?
Sean Keane too?
Who are the current members?
Mukade
Martin Fay retired a few years ago but Sean Keane is still with the group.
Who played fiddle?
Martin Fay hasn’t toured in at least 4 years, that I’m aware.
Hi
Who’s new.
Mairian Fahy: From “lord of the dance” (fiddle)
Johnathen & Nathen Palatsky: excellent fiddlers, dancers
There was also a new harpist (unfortunatly I can’t remember her name) who replaces Derek Bell.
Derek Bell
Passed away in October 2002. The Chieftains played a tune in his memorie, everyone clapped at the beginning and cheared at the end (theme from Barry Lyndon, I can see why Derek liked it so much). The band is obviously upset at his passing.
Still the same.
Seane Keane: still with them, but I don’t think he was at this particular concert.
Martin Fay: Semi-retired, confinse his gigs to Ireland.
Those in Perth WA (Western Australian). Do anything you can to see their concert. It was excellent.

Triona Marshall is their new harpist.

Great pictures Brian, thanks. I remember when I got the news regarding Derek Bell’s passing…I was stunned…I don’t think I can go see these guys again, the pain of Derek’s unexpected loss is still hard to bear. That, and Martin Fay’s rertirement…sigh. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll get a grip and venture out to one of their concerts before the rest have retired. The Chieftains are soley responsible for my discovering a deep and steafast love of ITM…and eventually picking up the pipes…well, them and Tommykleen, who made the mistake of allowing me to strap on his practice set many, many years ago. I was already playing the GHBs, but was absolutely obssessed by the UPs, and Tommy’s generosity only made it that much more worse (or, better…depending how one looks at it). I am rambling now…gotta go. ![]()
Sean Keane is playing a concert at NPU’s Henrietta St this Saturday. Two weeks later is Tommy Peoples. Hmmm…maybe the pipes are dying, can’t they find any pipers?
…dying? NOOOOooooooooo…say it isn’t true.
a Chieftain topic to be sure, but- anyone know whose pipe set is on the cover of Chieftain 5???

Thats a Michael Egan set made around 1850, They belonged to Dan Dowd. His grand-daughter has them now.
