Chieftain Low D non-tuneable

in 1997, I bought myself a Chieftain Low D non-tuneable. It cost 55 punts - at the time I could have bought an Overtone with the same spec. for 90 punts.

On some thewhistleshop.com, I see chieftain law d non-tune for US$187 and the Overton for US$190. When I bought my Chieftain, I was told that it was a cheaper alternative to the Overton, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Has Chieftain gotten better or has Overton gotten worse?

The Chieftain has definitely gotten better.

As to whether or not it’s “as good as an Overton” is probably a matter of taste. I can’t give you my own opinion as it’s been years since I last heard an Overton in person.
