Wow-ee-woo! ![]()
This is just wot the Dr. ordered! It’s easy to play and much more forgiving on breath control (for me, as a novice), than my Gen’s, Susato’s, or Dixon’s.
I have much easier control over half-holing C, due to the large holes (my Susato’s quite a challenge with its tiny holes) and bottom D’s solid with a nice firm push of breath: no worries about jumping or squawking.
Upper octave is well-balanced volume-wise and only blows your socks off above G (nobody’ll be nodding-off over a pint of Murphy’s, when I hit the B on ‘Danny Boy’
).
Although I consider the V3 to be a bit breathy, I think this trait carries over well to the high D and mellows it, whilst the large bore gives a good session-volume, (which is what I bought it for).
Even though my V3 is in-tune, I was a wee bit apprehensive, following on from gerardo’s recent thread. However, after 30 seconds of religious warming-up, I was delighted to play along with a few favourites off Youtube, which I know are at concert pitch. No issues there.
All in all then, a great addition to my rapidly-growing collection (discussions are underway re. the making of my next low D
).
Hope this might be helpful to anyone else thinking of getting one.
Cheers all,
BS.
