Ever since the great “Cows on Parade” campaign a few years ago Chicago has desperately been trying to recapture some tourist dollars.
We’ve had the uh outdoor couches(placed everywhere down town for people to enjoy two years ago)which were particularly enjoyed by the homeless population. Last year we had Ping Pong tables (placed everywhere down town for people to enjoy last year)which were apearently not enjoyed by anyone.
NOW! This year they are going to subsidize street performers. City hall is, as we speak, sending minions out to various bars, pubs and the like, to find acts that can be hired to play on the streets of Chicago this summer.
I bring this to your attention for two reasons:
Someone out there might find a gig for themselves (Like a whistling teacher who would have the summer to fill)
How funny is it that our friend from deadwood has had to go on a whistling crusade when, if she lived in Chicago, she may be getting recruited? and paid?
I just heard about it on the radio but I will look into it and see if I cand get back to you.
O.K.
From the sound of it on this press release found at the address below, the music everywhere program is not what I was led to believe by Roe & Garry on WLS 890 AM. There will be music everywhere all right They are going to pass out kazoos and have sing alongs. They are also planning to have musical chairs being played in the city. that should be interesting.
I am sure there will be street performers, but not exclusively.
I move here from Chicago, the cows were a stroke of genius…but it got too dang expensive to live there…cows were one of the few pieces of public art that I amsolutely love!
