Cherokee National Holiday is coming up this weekend, September 3-6 of 2004, and it’s a great chance to hear traditional music, and participate in American folk culture.
As always, it takes place in Tahlequah, in the hills of Oklahoma’s Green Country.
There will be singing, horseshoe competition, a film festival, Cherokee marbles (a game similar to croquet or lawn bowling), parade, Cherokee stickball game, softball and basketball tournaments, the Trail of Tears drama, Traditional Indian Food Cook-Off, fishing tournament, quilt contest, State of the Nation Address, Living Treasures Awards, and much more of interest. Something for just about everybody.
Oh yeah… and there will be FREE FOOD on the afternoon of the Fifth!
