Today I took a Clarke Sweetone C whistle and, between nappy [“dyper”] changes, I :-
Steamed the head off and repositioned it to get it more in tune
Tried rushing it like a chanter to flatten some notes [wooden skewer with “Blutak” attached corresponding to certain holes]
Blob of “Blutak” inside the bore at the bottom to flatten D and d
Bit of sanding of the fipple
Hey presto…an in-tune average volume whistle …LOVELY !!!
Who needs expensive whistles??
